Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and collected a record £11m in prize money.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break following the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
