The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
