People have gathered across the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as discussions continued in the neighboring country over an end to the war in Gaza.

The incident led to in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as captives. It was the single most fatal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel answered by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are regarded as accurate by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," the leader stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the objectives of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will never again present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official memorials until mid-October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but ceremonies still were held throughout the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was organized in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was aired throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was observed throughout the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations convened in the North African coastal city of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to examine the provisions of the plan.

A high-ranking Palestinian official involved in the talks revealed that an late session of indirect talks started at evening in Egypt.

The official said the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, because of conflicting views over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not resume hostilities after the first phase of the arrangement.

He noted that the talks are "challenging and have yet to deliver any real breakthrough," but mentioned that mediators are striving to close the differences between the conflicting groups.

Critical Issues in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The trade of the prisoners still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid provision
  • Future management of the area

Public Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, young a woman - whose brother lived through the attack on the gathering, where hundreds were killed and numerous more were captured by Hamas militants - shared: "No place feels like home any longer and until all the hostages return no one will feel safe."

"When we see all home again, we can breathe anew. Then we can commence heal," she added.

In front of the leader's home in the capital, people congregated to demonstrate their solidarity for the families of the abducted. Israel says 48 continue in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Protester a participant explained: "It's necessary do any agreement required for the abducted to be released. But we really want promises that we will be protected."

Surveys now regularly indicate that around seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the conflict to finish in exchange for the freedom of the hostages.

Gaza Circumstances

At the location of Nova festival, those paying respects gathered to remember the victims.

From there, the noise of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the severe Israeli bombardment carried on.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were reported in the morning of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, sector and Nasr areas and in the east side area of the community, as well the camp to the north-west.

"Once the dusk comes, the dread appears with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack previously, described.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the air strikes. During nighttime we are lying together, clinging, especially my youngest child who puts his head on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the news to see the situation. And I'm worried that this halt will not be completed and that the war will return to us."

Health Emergency

The healthcare center in the urban area reported it had taken in the bodies of half dozen people by the midday, including three who died in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the south region of the city said additional victims had been transported. An individual was lost his life by Israeli troops while seeking assistance to the south, health workers stated.
