The former Liverpool manager says a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.

Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure featuring Champions League success and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and as an advisor with the German Football League.

Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

They secured the league title in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would welcome the idea that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he shared with the podcast host: “I stated I will never coach another team in England. So that means should it be the Reds...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”

“I’m 58, that means I might decide in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about the specific conditions must arise to bring him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip press conferences four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, yet sharing a meal with the team enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”

Praise for His Successor

Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him for the adjustments which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the idea it could be a decline.

“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good balanced team. No need for concern over the club, they will be fine.”

Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota

Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, and its impact at the club. The Portugal international died tragically in a car crash with his brother recently.

“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad also. No one within the club will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Coping with it emotionally is challenging. Impossible.”
