The English Team to Begin Euro 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they attain the expected passage for a championship staged throughout the majority of the UK and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not staged an England men’s match since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to host the England side for their first match on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are planned to play their last two group stage games at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their last-16 tie would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Launch and Protest

The championship was launched at an event in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were barracked as they arrived the location by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded Israel’s national side to be removed from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Placards were raised with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Championship Timeline

The opening game of Euro 2028 will be held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will feature the Welsh team if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will cater to households and help reach a broader range of viewers.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will enter the qualifying tournament; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that miss out on the finals through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Elimination Phase

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight staged at the national stadium of each host.

The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a venue city last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.

Official Statement

“This will be a championship for the followers and a showcase of everything we value about the sport – its fervor and ability to foster unity.”

Over 3 million tickets, a record for a men’s European Championship, are expected to be made available to supporters.
