Sweden Team Announcement: Alexander Isak Named While Gyokeres Omitted
The striker joined the Gunners from Sporting this summer
Gunners forward Viktor Gyokeres has been omitted in the new manager's maiden Swedish national squad, while Liverpool striker Alexander Isak received selection
Gyokeres is due to undergo additional examinations in the coming days following fears he sustained a hamstring injury during the Gunners's English top flight triumph at Burnley last weekend
The 27-year-old was absent from the Gunners' European win versus Slavia Prague on Tuesday
Isak Returns
Isak, absent from action since 22 October because of muscle issues, made the squad to play in the World Cup games against Switzerland (15 November) and the Slovenian side (November 18th)
Other England-based Selections
- Spurs playmaker the young talent, currently rehabilitating from concussion
- Newcastle winger Anthony Elanga
Both athletes were included in Potter's Premier League players selected by ex- Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham manager the new Swedish coach
Potter's Role
Potter was named by Sweden originally temporarily in late October, under a month after he was dismissed from West Ham
Previous manager Jon Dahl Tomasson was fired after Sweden's 1-0 loss to the Kosovan team in mid-October, an outcome that made automatic qualification in their World Cup group impossible
Present Position
The Swedish team sit bottom in Group B having just one point in four matches
Even if they fail to secure second place, they may yet take part in the World Cup play-offs because of their performance in the latest Nations League
