Supporters Demand Custody of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are urging that a person who breached a barrier and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A viral footage reveals the Australian man pushing past camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors made its way down a promenade surrounded by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was set to be present on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account contains videos of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last year.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user questioned.
Followers Voice Worry Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous supporters criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented another message on Instagram.
Several fans also criticised event staff at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others demanded social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be released on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual adaptation of the well-known stage show Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored a dozen award recognitions, winning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
