A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Holidays
The winter break provide a multitude of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the updates: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on festive fare, and harnessing deep breathing to not snapping at relatives. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting news items surfaced during the break, and should you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Truly the most surprising announcement, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which is seen as a good sign. But, the key visual for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been going on for some time, and season 6 was another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
